How to Set Up a Minecraft Profile Using CurseForge

If you are not using a third-party Minecraft launcher, like CurseForge, I highly recommend it. Using a third-party launcher means you can create different profiles for different servers. Each profile can have different mods, settings, and even different Minecraft versions. It's much easier than manually configuring the base launcher each time you want to play on a specific server, especially if that server is modded in some way.

Setting Up a Profile for Kulprid's Streaming Server

Here's a quick tutorial to help you set up a profile for the current server Kulprid uses to stream Minecraft, using CurseForge. Other launchers exist, so feel free to use whichever one you prefer.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Open CurseForge and make sure the Minecraft block on the left side is clicked/selected.
  2. On the top right, click "Create Custom Profile".
  3. In "Profile Name", type whatever you want to use to identify this profile, for example, "Kulp Streaming Server".
  4. In "Minecraft Version", select 1.20.4, as this is the version currently used by the server.
  5. In "Game Type", make sure "Forge" is active.
  6. In "Modloader Version", select the newest version, or use forge-49.0.38, which is known to work.

Press "Create".

Downloading and Setting Up the Profile

  1. Press Play on this profile to download and set up the folders, the correct Minecraft version, and the Forge version.
  2. After it finishes downloading and the game opens, exit the game and return to the CurseForge launcher.

Adding Mods

  1. Click "My Modpacks" to list all your current modpacks/profiles as square icons.
  2. Right-click the one you just made and select "Open Folder". This opens the profile folder, which looks like a normal Minecraft installation.
  3. Download the mods.zip file attached below this tutorial. Unzip it and place the unzipped files into the "mods" folder. Do not simply add the zip file; the files must be unzipped.

Finalizing

After adding the mods, close the folder window, go back to the CurseForge window, and the Minecraft profile for Kulprid's server should be ready to play.

Connecting to the Server

The Minecraft server Kulprid is currently streaming on: TechGarage.ca:29016

If Not Using a Third-Party Launcher

If you do not want to use a third-party launcher or are already using one, here are the details to connect:

  • MUST be running Forge.
  • Server: TechGarage.ca:29016
  • Minecraft version: 1.20.4
  • Add mods from the mods.zip file.

Increasing Allocated Memory (Recommended)

Since you will be running Minecraft with mods, I highly recommend increasing the allocated memory limit in the settings. In CurseForge, click the settings cogwheel in the bottom left, click "Minecraft" on the left side, scroll down to "Java Settings", and drag the "Set the default memory allocated to profiles" bar to the right. For Kulprid's server, 5-6 GB should be sufficient.
